A little story based on a doodle I drew one night :)
The original story is “Hold Close” by Ingrid Tan, not some “doodle” you drew. http://ingridtan.deviantart.com/art/Hold-Close-298355905
Sorry, can we please can we not just jump to making accusations? A couple of people have already made me aware of that comic and how similar they are.
I am not in the business of plagiarism or art theft. It’s a waste of time, effort and is massively disrespectful to the original artist. Not to mention that if you do this you most likely will eventually get found out and it’s ultimately a pointless exercise (and it’s a dick move).
The ‘Hold Close’ comic is stunning. Had I been aware of it I would have probably never made my comic because the concept is so similar. My comic genuinely did come from a doodle I drew before bed one night. The doodle was a yin-yang symbol where one half was fire and the other water (if you google that there are probably thousands of the things) and they looked like they were hugging. I gave them little faces and thought they were cute and then made a comic of them falling in love and creating a steam baby.
If you personify these two opposing elements and make them fall in love I honestly can’t see any other conclusion than them becoming steam (unless you don’t want a satisfying ending). Fire and water are not a unique or unpopular theme in story telling, even more so the idea of forbidden love (think Romeo and Juliet and the countless things that can be linked to that).
I don’t make a habit of making inferior copies of other peoples’ work (or do it at all to be honest). If ‘Hold Close’ had at least been the inspiration for my comic I would have at least had the common decency to state that point.
I have way too much respect for anyone who creates art. I know from experience what it’s like if someone steals or plagiarises your work. It’s incredibly frustrating and I wouldn’t want to do that to anyone else.
That’s pretty much all I have to say on this. If anyone still wants to believe I’m conceited or stupid enough to take that beautiful comic and rip it off then I don’t know what else I could say to convince you otherwise. Or you can take that it’s a genuine coincidence spawned from the same concept of fire and water falling in love and the limited number of outcomes that it could produce.
